SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY
Vision Or Goal
The National Science and Technology Policy is to support national socio-economic development goals with a view to lifting Ghana to a middle level income status by the year 2020 through the development and perpetuation of science and technology culture at all levels of society.
Purpose
The purpose as culled from the National Science and Technology Policy include: to establish a well co-ordinated and integrated system of scientific technological and social innovation within which: the private sectors can collaboratively forge partnerships and create interactions to benefit themselves and the nation at large; all stakeholders are part of a more inclusive and collaborative approach to policy decision-making and resource allocation for science and technology activities; i the encouragement of a culture within which the advancement of scientific knowledge is valued as an essential component of national development and; ii improved support for all kinds of innovation which are fundamental to sustainable economic growth, employment and socio-cultural development.
Objectives
The National Science and Technology Policy seeks to: master scientific and technological capabilities develop infrastructures which will enable industry and other sectors of the economy to provide the basic needs of society and for the citizenry; encourage a science and technology culture for the country. Based on the above, the National Science and Technology Policy identified measures to be pursued by various sectors to realize the objectives of the policy. The educational sector is toproduce the requisite human resources in Science and Technology to support national socio- economic development goals with a view to lifting Ghana to a Middle Level income country by the year 2020.
